Help us find the farmers who are managing profitable and healthy soils. NRM groups from across WA have joined forces and are once again looking for our latest “Soil Health Champions”. If you think you are a “Soil Health Champion” or have been inspired by a fellow soil health advocate please complete a nomination and return to Wheatbelt NRM before the closing date: Monday, 11 December 2017.

A Soil Health Champion will be awarded from each participating NRM region, with all finalists receiving an all-expenses paid trip to their region’s “2018 Talkin’ Soil Health Conference” in either Dalwallinu or Katanning. A short film featuring the great work of all finalists will also be shown at the event.

A nomination process is now open to find “the one” and applicants should select one of the following categories: 

• Has adopted practice(s) to improve the health of their soils.
• Monitors and evaluates changes and impacts of the practice(s).
• Illustrates that the practice(s) is both achievable and economical.
• Has inspired other farmers to adopt similar practice(s).
• Is seen as an advocate for sustainable agriculture in the farming community, local community, broader networks, authorities and/or researchers.

The conferences are to be held in both Dalwallinu on 13 - 14 March 2018 and Katanning on 15 - 16 March 2018 and promises to deliver inspiring and educational forums to help farmers unlock the secrets of their soils and increase their productivity. The events will provide opportunities for farmers and anyone interested in ‘unearthing profits’ to hear the latest research findings and understand how they can use that information to improve soil management for their own farms, their industry and more broadly, for agricultural land across the state.
